Salem and Sabrina. When we adopted these 2 kittens
(Black DSH and Black DLH), they were Sabrina & Jill after the Charlie's
Angels, their sister Kelly was adopted already. My kids didn't know
who the Charlie's Angels were so they renamed Jill Salem after the cat
on Sabrina the Teenage Witch series. Plus, we have a Bernese Mt. Dog
Sophie so all our pets have S names.
Djali. The word "djali" describes a wandering
performer/musician/dancer, somewhat similar to a gypsy. The name of
the goat in Victor Hugo's Hunchback of Notre Dame (both the book and
the Disney movie) is Djali. Pronounced something like "dee-ya-lee.".

Wiley J. Peabody, Ashes, Sassafrass. Wiley is
playful and a whore for attention, ashes is the perfect cat, and sassafrass
(Nasty Ass Sassafrass, sass) is 3 colors, she is named for the sassafrass
tree which has 3 different leaves. She is a bitch and has gone as far
as to give a person stitches. .
Tahie. "Tahie" was choosen as a diminutive of
Tahireh, a beautiful very intelligent and spiritual poetess and heroine
of the XIX century in Iran . She gave her life to promote the equality
of women. My female cat has shown beautiful qualities of peace, sensitivity,
and love of spiritual atmosphere. I love her so much. She is an angel

Mouse. Everyone always asks "Why did you name

Bitey. Self Explanitory..
Merlyn, Arthur, Dudley, Princess. We started with
Merlyn and Arthur. Merlyn had FIP and we lost him. Arthur was lonely
so we got a buddy for him...adopted from a vets office and we named
him ...Dudley. Later we adopted another kitty. A black and white shorthair
with catitude to spare. The vet's office called her mama... She was
too regal for thaqt so she became Princess or Princessa.. also princess
diesel cause she growls like a downshifting 18 wheeler! SO using one
cats name as the base, others are named with complimentary names. .
Neon. We adopted an adorable all grey kitty with
yellow eyes. He looked like the poster kitty in the Cat Fancy magazine
in an article about the breed of cats known as Chartruex. Kittens born
that year shoudl be named with names that begin with the letter N. I
pounded my brains for three weeks. Nermal, Norman, Nick, these run of
the mill names didn't fit our little grey ball of fur. In the mean time,
our car broke down, and we got a loaner..... A Dodge... you guessed
it ... NEON I looked at that name, written in rounded letters, took
a look at our little guy and called "Neon?" He answered with his characteristic
trill of a meow. Neon it is! (Of course, he is also known as Ne-Ne and

Rosie Posie, & Georgie Pordgie. These names just
sum up the personality of my 5 cats. Wills is a grumpy old man, Jessie
a very distinguished lady, Betsy a grumpy old lady, George & Rosie are
like two 5 year ols always into mischief!!.
Kiescha. When i first met my cat, she was just
over 6 weeks and she liked to give me kisses. I first thought of kissa.....
thinking that it sounded similar and was appropriate. But then that
got changed to Kiescha when i saw the name on a cat name website!.

rascal . the reason why i named him rascal is
b/c when i first adopted him, he climed the bars of the crate he was
in and jumped onto the middle shelf. Any time a kitten tries 2 get onto
the same shelf, he will pounce at the kitten and then he stared myschievously

Harlott. Harlott is a white long haired female.
She adopted us about four years ago during an ice-storm. I heard a banging
at the door and after some pushing and shoving to get the door free
of ice, this white fur ball came rushing in griping, yowling, and nagging
at me for not letting her in sooner. From her behavior I determined
that she was definitely female. I figured she was out "catting" around,
got caught in the storm and didn't make it back to her own digs before

as we like to call her). I got the name Tobias from
a movie I saw "Displaced Person". I thought it would make a great name
for my cat. Spooky is from The X Files's spooky Mulder. Rocky is from
the movie "Rocky" because Rocky would sit on his hind legs and box when
a toy was dangled. Meyew was named as such because that is how she called
to me (the sound of her meow). The name Missy just sprung up out of

SweetPea. Male ,Bengal-he was miss-identified
as female when he was rescued from his disturbed mother at 5 weeks.
Thus the "girlie" name. Grew into even though he became a 17 pound tom
within two years, but name still fit him. Unfortunately he was taken
from us this year, but we never see a sweet pea in the garden that it
doesn't bring back memories of him hiding in the grass, stalking the
butterflies he never caught and making us laugh. .

Dragon. The little "mall-rat" we rescued from

Arieal in memorie. my baby's name was Arieal and
my best friend. our nabor found her on the side of the road and she
was only about 2-3 weeks old. we feed her with a eye droper. we got
her and we thought it was a girl but it was a boy the name stuck. i
was 5 when i named him so it was Arieal after the little mermaid. she
would sleep with me every night. she wanted for me out side my door
when i took a shower. she even got used to the hair drier. she would
follow me up and down the stares. but she stared to get really thin
and the doctor did not know what was wrong with her. but she just kept
getting skinner then we took her in one more time and they said that
her kidneys were not working any more. we took her in on July the 2
of 2002 and put her to sleep. it was the hardest thing i think i have

my baby is gone. my other cat(mittens)is now understanding that she

Miranda.
New-cat. He's a georgious flamepoint Siamese and
Himalayan mix, with big baby blue eyes. He has a few orangey tiger-stripes
on his face and his back reminds me of orange creme. His stomach is
white and so are his paws. He's the most beautiful cat I've ever seen.
He's very mellow and loves to cuddle. He's very reserved and sweet and
charming, as well. He reminds me of a little prince. We're still trying
to find a name for him (after eight months!). My brothers took to calling
him "New-cat" We're still looking for the perfect name, but here are
some of the ones we're considering: Murphy, Cyrus, Orville, Firenze,
Fritz, Quincy, Calvin, Sylban, Ruben, and Sebastian..

Gex (old cat). He was named after Meeko the racoon
in "Pocahontas". But because of a problem with his vocal cords, he couldn't
meow but only "squeak", so we called him Meikomouse. He was huge cat,

Binky.
Meeko and Maggie. Meeko is a small, knock-kneed
little brown tabby. He reminded me of the raccoon from Pocahontas. He
is my baby cat, and has earned many nicknames from me: Baby Cat, Babykins,
Meekster. I've had him for about 6 years now. Maggie is a small snowshoe.

Bayzil. bayzil i have to say is a really good
girl she gets along with all of my 4 other cats very well her favorite
friend is spooks. they run around the house like a buch of nutcases
nocking over things as they go along.Bayzil seems to hypnotized by any
loud sound so when we need to know where she is i let out a loud screech
and she comes running from downstairs! we rescued bayzil from being

boo, tubby, and cory. boo because she was very
scidish as a kitten,so say (boo) and she would jump a mile high. (tubby)
a very chubby cat who he picked the name out. we were calling him fatso
but he didn't like that ten one day we called him tubby and he just
started meowing every time we said that and he came to that name. And
as (cory) goes nothing special but it was our street name when he was
born. But cory thinks he is a dog we will take him for walks on the
beach and we can go for maybesome times a mile and this cat will walk
right beside us and if he does fall back all I have do do is either
wistle or snap my fingers and he comes running . And he likes too be

ASKEM. "Ask em" like short for "ask him." Askem
is the name of a stray cat who was adopted by my boyfriend who lived
in a fraternity house. There was always lots of people in the house
and people kept asking "What's the cats name?" to which my boyfried
(who hadn't named the cat) and others replied "I don't know, ask'em
(ask him, like ask the cat)?" So Askem became the cats name. .
Claudia Marie (aka Miss Clawdy & Senorita Meow Meow). Claudia
means love, loyalty, friendshi, perfect compansionship, and a great
cuddler. Claudia is a snow white, 12 pound, DSH with a pink nose and
yellow-green eyes. I rescued her from the local Humane Society where
I volunteer---or is should say she rescued me. She is the love of my
life. As a declawed stray she was brought to the HS as waif of 7 pounds,
and very dirty. At the HS Claudia didn't like other cats, or people
and was very depressed--she didn't even meow, she opened her mouth but
no sound came. Claudia has a new life with me, where she is safe, warm,
loved, and gets plenty of attention. She drinks Bottled Evian water,
and in the morning and evening she gets broiled chicken which has been
carefully cut into tiny pieces (by me). Did I mention she eats out of
my great-grandmother's little china dishes, and she sleeps every night
on a pillow placed right above my head. Claudia is a cuddler, if I am
watching TV or taking a nap she cuddles her arms around my hand and
places her sweet little kitty chin on my hand and purrs. She is no longer
quiet, she is very vocal now and talks to me in sweet meows, or loud
meows if she's hungry or wants something. .

Destined at first to be Elvis, luckily, I watched the movie Sleepwalkers
a few days before I brought him home. The movie where the deputy's cat
saves the girl. His name "Clovis, the killer attack cat". I guess I
felt like I needed to be saved at the time.8 years and a husband later,
he's still watching over me. After all, he is the "man" of the house.

rascal. An ex dumpster-diver stray, he is quite
a little rascal. He gets into a lot and demands attention. We found

boogie. From the beginning he would do these little
dances, sort of playing with imaginary things.
Dust Bunny (Dusty for short). I don't quite know
what she is... the rest of the kittens in the litter were perfect little
gold striped babies that looked exactly like the mother. But Dusty looked
just like something one might find under the couch -- way in the back.
She is a polydactyl - 7 toes on each of the front paws and 6 on each
paw in the back. She climbs and jumps like a squirrel and we have our
suspicions that her mother may have had an elicit affair with one of

Thorbee. Thor as he was formally named was named
after the god of thunder. He adopted me during a thunder storm in Lenexa,
KS. Thor was usually called Thorbee to go along with my other cat named
Dustee. Thorbee was a mostly maine coon- brown patch tabby. He adpoted
me when he was about 5 months old and I lost him due to kidney disease
on 12-3-01 after 14 1/2 years. He was a fabulous cat and my best friend.
I have now adopted Thorbee2 a maine coon mix that resembles his namesake,

Pooh. Pooh's original name was Patch because she
was born with a deformed jaw and her mother tried to kill her by squashing
her head under the litter box. I figured out what she was doing and
rescued Pooh. Of course, both of her eyes were bulging out and her head
was squished. I cleaned her up, tried to reform her skull a bit, cleaned
the litter out of her eyes and tried to put patches over her little
eyes so that her retinas would not be hurt by the light. She would have
none of that, so we had to resort to putting a heating pad in a carrier,
along with an alarm clock and soft blanket and bottle fed her every
4 hours until she was 3 months old. The light sensitivity only lasted
a couple of weeks, but she remembers those lonely times and pretty much
refuses to go in the carrier. Because she is sure that she is being
punished for something. When we make the 11 hour trek to Minnesota to
visit my sister, she travels with us and you can bet she is never in
that carrier. Today, at 3 years of age, her canines finally clear by
1/2" and you can catch her sneaking some of the other cat's hard food
out of the dish. She also remains the runt of the litter, weighing in
at 5 pounds. She has found that the hard food also has entertainment
value and she will bat and chase a piece of it across the linoleum,
just to be cute. But mostly, I have her on soft food which no longer
needs to be diluted down so that she can lap it up. Pooh is a black
tabby with a white collar and chest and white feet. And she is our princess.
My husband refers to her as his daughter. She sleeps between our heads
at night and even under the covers if it is too chilly. She has also
taught all 4 other cats tongue language. When she was younger, her tongue
would not fit in her mouth and oftentimes about 1/2" of it would be
sticking out of her mouth between her canines. She/we quickly learned
that if she was happy, more of it, up to 1" would stick out of her mouth.
And if she was happy or greeting you, she would flick her tongue at
you, much like a snake. The other 4 cats have picked up this flicking
greeting now and I have caught all of them flicking from time to time.
And Pooh's head? Both of her ears were deformed from being squished.
One sticks straight up, but is malformed and the other sticks out at
a right angle to her head. But she will always be our beautiful little

Kahli. We originally called this little girl Owl
Face because she was all gray, except for a light face. She was very
attentive and would watch you no matter what you were doing in the room.
As she grew up, the intent was to find her another home and she needed
another name, other than Owl Face, so we named her Callie. Because I
thought she was a Calico. Well, she turned out to be a torti and my
son wanted us to keep her as a pet for him, and I made him swear that
he would take her when she left home. 5 cats was way too many! Well,
she loves her brother and sister so much that we didn't let her go and
my husband changed the spelling of her name to Kahli, after the Indian
goddess. She is now 3 years old and our beautiful red headed daughter.
She is the thinker of the bunch. She will set back and watch how things
work and figure them out. Then she will talk the others into getting

Ozzie. Ozzie's mom was feral and very pregnant
when we rescued her. She had her litter after only a couple of days
of being in our house. We originally took her in to get a playmate for
Chucky because, being an alley cat himself, he played rough. Ozzie fit
the qualifications. He used to run around with his tail in the shape
of a question mark and you knew he was about to get into trouble. My
son named him after Ozzie Osborn, the rock star, because he was such
a wild boy. Ozzie is now 3 years old and 11 pounds and a wonderful playmate

Chucky. We wanted to call this gray striped tabby
Bill The Cat, so badly, but he refused to answer to it. He was a skinny
little boy when he adopted us and he had an awful habit of eating until
he threw up. One day, a truck driving commercial came on and the guy's
name was Chuck. We called the cat Chuck and he allowed us to name him
that one. Actually, as many little presents as he leaves on the floor,

Wiener. Wiener was a research kitty. Medical students
practiced inserting breathing tubes into newborns into these small kittens.
Then, they are put up for adoption. Any that don't get adopted, get
euthanized. I wanted a different cat, a black one, and my husband at
the time wanted him, a gray striped tabby. I said that if we got that
cat, his name would be Wiener because my husband was calling me Wiener
Head at the time and I wanted to show him just how bad it sounded. He
stopped calling me that awful name. I eventually got rid of him and

Jerry. Every child of a certain age loves the
"Tom and Jerry" cartoons. When we were looking to find a good name for
our newly-acquired kitten, my sons (then ages 7 and 4)naturally thought
of "Tom". I nixed the idea, saying that that was too obvious, too common.
My 4 year old had a brainstorm-why not name him Jerry instead of Tom?

Portia. My first cat, who travelled through 4
states and lived until she was 16-1/2. The most beautiful calico cat
I've ever seen. Pronounced "poorsha" I named her after the character
in Shakespeare's the Merchant of Venice. The woman who dressed like
a man to enter court to save her lover who owed a loan shark a "pound
of flesh." No one could save him from death, til Portia dressed as a
man became his lawyer and argued "a pound of flesh but not one drop

Pepe LePeu. A stray cat came knocking at the door
during a break in the weather after a very cold snap (-40). We live
in Quebec so cold weather is the norm for winter. He was extremely underweight,
smelled badly, his coat was very tangled and he had obviously not eaten
for quite a while. We gave him some food on the balcony and then contemplated
what to do. We took him in and gave him a bath. He smelled very bad.
He obviously got sprayed by a skunk. The next day it was off to the
vet and to the hairdresser. We had to shave his coat because it was
so long and tangled. He was left with his boots and pompom on his tail.
Not having the heart to send him back out in the cold, where he surely
would have died, my wife wondered what we should call him. We decided
on Pepe because of his inital smell and the way he followed my wife
from room to room. He reminded me of the cartoon character, Pepe Lepeu!
Pepe is doing very well, having gained back 5 pounds and is very happy
with his new domain. .
